This is the genuine Ortofon replacement stylus for the 2M Mono SE cartridge. It carries a nude Shibata diamond on a white stylus assembly.
Ortofon no longer makes the 2M Mono SE cartridge. A fresh stylus is how owners keep this mono cartridge playing at its best.
The Shibata tip has an r/R 6/50 µm profile. Ortofon says its polished shape gives a very wide contact area with the groove walls. That means detailed sound across the range, up to the highest frequencies in the groove.
Ortofon created the 2M Mono SE as a tribute to the 2014 Beatles mono LP box set. It calls it the one mono cartridge to play all the old and new mono records in existence.
A mono cartridge does not respond to vertical movement. Ortofon says this makes it nearly immune to pinch effect and much less sensitive to dust, dirt and wear.
Ortofon makes this stylus for the 2M Mono SE cartridge. Set the tracking force to 1.5 grams, within Ortofon's range of 1.4 to 1.7 grams.
What it is not: it is not the matched stylus for the regular 2M Mono or any other 2M cartridge. Those take their own styli, found in our replacement styli collection.
Ortofon's Stylus 2M user guide covers the steps in detail.
