The Onkyo Muse Y-40 is a compact streaming integrated amplifier. It combines a Class D amplifier, a network streamer, an MM phono input and HDMI ARC in a chassis 13.8 inches wide.
Onkyo rates it at 75 watts per channel into 8 ohms and 150 watts into 4 ohms. It comes in Black or Silver.
An Axign Class D amplifier with MOSFET outputs drives your speakers. The circuit is temperature-controlled, so no cooling fan is needed.
The front display shows the input, volume and the track that is playing. Two of its screens show analog-style VU meters.
Spotify Connect, TIDAL Connect, Qobuz Connect, AirPlay 2 and Google Cast are built in. Four MY INPUT presets each store an input, sound settings and a network service, recalled with one press.
It drives speakers rated from 4 to 16 ohms. Three RCA inputs and an MM phono input cover analog sources, and HDMI ARC brings in your TV's sound.
Coaxial and optical inputs accept digital sources, and a front USB port plays music files from a storage drive. It streams over Wi-Fi or Ethernet and accepts Bluetooth.
What it will not do: it has no subwoofer output, bass management or room correction, and its phono input does not support moving coil cartridges. The Muse Y-50 adds these features.
Dennis Burger reviewed the Y-40 for SoundStage! Access (June 2026). On a dense, layered recording, he wrote: "It still sounds amazing."
He added: "Here, yet again, is a perfect example of "magic" as an emergent property of science and engineering."
The Y-40 comes in Black or Silver.
