The Onkyo P-80 Network Preamplifier combines a preamp, a phono stage, a DAC and a network streamer in one Icon Series chassis. It sends the result to your power amplifier over balanced XLR or RCA.
It has two subwoofer outputs, Dirac Live room correction and a headphone jack. It comes in Black or Silver.
A dedicated phono input works with moving magnet and moving coil cartridges, selected with a rear switch. Onkyo uses a discrete circuit for the MC gain stage and applies its DIDRC circuit to the phono amplifier.
Digital sources run through a 32-bit/768 kHz stereo DAC. Onkyo's patented DIDRC circuit sits in the DAC's analog filter and is designed to make digital sources sound as natural as records.
The P-80 has no cooling fan. An aluminum heat sink, aluminum side panels and a steel top panel help control vibration.
Dirac Live room correction is built in, and a setup microphone is included. The full version and Dirac Live Bass Control are available as separate licenses.
Two subwoofer outputs let you add up to two powered subwoofers. Fidelity IQ adjusts tonal balance automatically as you change the volume.
The P-80 needs a power amplifier, such as Onkyo's M-80. Connect them with balanced XLR or RCA cables, and use the 12V trigger output to switch a compatible amplifier on and off.
Sources connect to three RCA inputs, the phono input, HDMI ARC for your TV, and coaxial and optical inputs. A USB port plays music files from a storage drive.
It streams over Wi-Fi or Ethernet with Spotify Connect, TIDAL Connect, Qobuz Connect, Amazon Music, TuneIn, AirPlay 2 and Chromecast. It is Roon Ready, and the Onkyo Controller app runs it from your phone.
What it will not do: it has no built-in power amplifier, so it cannot drive speakers by itself. It has no balanced XLR inputs, and its USB port does not accept a computer.
Jeff Wheaton reviewed the P-80 with Onkyo's M-80 power amplifier for Secrets of Home Theater and High Fidelity (October 2026). On the phono stage, he wrote: "The phono stage in the MC mode was very competent, and surprisingly, it is included at no extra charge for such a high-quality component."
On the pair's sound: "The P-80 and M-80 defied being in a category, instead hugging the neutral, center ground of being musically natural."
The P-80 comes in Black or Silver.
