The Bryston BP-3 MM is a phono preamp in its own compact case. It takes the tiny signal from your cartridge and raises it to line level for your preamp or integrated amplifier.
It applies 41dB of gain. Bryston sets that for moving-magnet cartridges and high-output moving-coil cartridges.
The gain comes from Class A discrete operational amplifiers. Bryston pairs them with what it calls ultra-precise RIAA equalization. Distortion stays below 0.005% from 20Hz to 20kHz, and noise sits below -80dB with a 5mV input.
The BP-3 MM has no power supply inside. It runs only from a Bryston PS-3 or MPS-2 power supply. Neither is included, so plan on one when you buy.
The case is 5.7 inches wide, 2.75 inches high and 8.25 inches deep, and weighs 3.6 pounds. It fits close to the turntable or preamp. A front-panel switch mutes it.
The BP-3 MM sits between your turntable and any line-level RCA input. Connections are RCA in and RCA out. Capacitive loading can be set inside the unit to suit your cartridge.
Bryston specifies it for moving-magnet and high-output moving-coil cartridges only, so a low-output moving-coil cartridge is outside its range. It has no balanced XLR connections. It will not run without a Bryston PS-3 or MPS-2 supply.
Connect a Bryston PS-3 or MPS-2 power supply to the BP-3 MM. Plug your turntable's RCA cables into the input. Then run RCA cables from the output to a line input on your preamp or integrated amplifier.
We carry the BP-3 MM with a silver or black faceplate.
