The Onkyo A-50 Network Integrated Amplifier is part of Onkyo's Icon Series. It combines a Class AB power amplifier, a preamp, a DAC, a phono stage and a network streamer in one box.
Onkyo rates it at 110 watts per channel into 8 ohms and 180 watts into 4 ohms. It comes in Black or Silver.
The amplifier uses a three-stage Inverted Darlington output stage, which Onkyo says drives high current with low distortion. Custom 10,000 µF capacitors and a copper bus bar feed it.
There is no cooling fan, so nothing whirs during quiet passages. An extruded aluminum heat sink and a 5 mm aluminum front panel help keep vibration down.
Digital sources run through a 32-bit/768 kHz stereo DAC. Onkyo's patented DIDRC circuit sits in the DAC's analog filter and is designed to reduce high-frequency noise from digital sources.
Dirac Live measures your room using the setup-mic input and corrects the response at your listening seat. A limited version is included, and the full version is available as a separate license.
It drives speakers rated from 4 to 16 ohms, from bookshelf models to large floorstanders. Three pairs of RCA inputs and a moving magnet or moving coil phono input cover analog sources.
For digital, there is HDMI ARC for a TV, one coaxial input, two optical inputs and a USB-A port for music files on a storage drive. It streams over Wi-Fi or Ethernet and accepts Bluetooth with aptX HD.
Built-in services include Spotify Connect, TIDAL Connect, Qobuz Connect, Amazon Music, Qplay, TuneIn, AirPlay 2 and Chromecast. It is also Roon Ready, and the Onkyo Controller app runs it from your phone.
What it will not do: it has no balanced XLR inputs, and it is not rated for speakers below 4 ohms. It is a two-channel amplifier, not a surround receiver.
Ed Selley, The EAR (April 2026): "This is a truly formidable offering and one that is likely to be tricky to beat."
Gene Hopstetter, Secrets of Home Theater and High Fidelity (July 2026): "The first words that came to mind when I was listening to the Onkyo were "authoritative" and "effortless."" He summed it up: "And its gorgeous sound matches its gorgeous looks."
The A-50 comes in Black or Silver.
