A 3.5mm-to-RCA interconnect lets a source built around a small headphone-style jack — a phone, portable player, or compact streamer — feed a stereo system's RCA inputs directly, with no separate adapter in the signal path. What separates a premium cable from a bargain one is conductor quality and shielding against outside noise.
Kimber Kable's GQ Mini connects a portable player, phone, or computer's 3.5mm output to a home stereo system's RCA inputs, built around Kimber's four-wire Gryoquadratic braid geometry, which the company says reduces outside noise. The Ag version moves to all-silver conductors, the top of Kimber's GQ Mini line and a substantial step up in price over Cu and HB.
Kimber Kable says GQ Mini Ag uses 4 VariStrand silver conductors, arranged in the same Gryoquadratic four-wire braid geometry used across the GQ Mini line, in place of the copper or hybrid conductors used lower in the range.
Silver conductors carry a much larger price premium in this line than a typical copper-to-silver step elsewhere in this project — worth knowing before you order, since Ag runs meaningfully higher than Cu or HB at every matched length, not just a modest step.
GQ Mini Ag terminates in a 3.5mm mini gold plug on the source end and a pair of WBT-0147 RCA-type connectors on the amplifier end, a different connector pairing than Cu and HB use lower in the line.
Plug the 3.5mm end into your source's headphone or line-out jack, and the two RCA plugs into the matching RCA inputs on your amplifier or receiver, matching red to red and white/black to white/black.
Then power up the system as usual. Other and longer lengths available. Call for prices.
A 3.5mm-to-RCA interconnect is one link between a source and an amplifier or receiver. It usually joins these categories.
Many portable players, phones, and compact streaming devices only offer a single 3.5mm headphone-style output, while most home amplifiers and receivers expect a stereo pair of RCA inputs; this cable bridges that one mismatch without an extra adapter.
Unbalanced. GQ Mini Ag is a standard single-ended connection on both ends, like a typical headphone-to-amp cable, not a balanced connection.
Yes. Kimber Kable describes GQ Mini as a multi-purpose cable for connecting an iPod, MP3 player, satellite radio, or computer to a home stereo system through its 3.5mm mini plug.
Not in the Kimber GQ Mini line we carry. GQ Mini Ag is the top of that range. If you want to go further, call us and we will talk through the whole chain.
