AudioQuest's Husky XLR connects a subwoofer over balanced XLR. It uses solid conductors of 5% silver-plated copper, polyethylene air-tube insulation, a four-layer carbon-based Noise-Dissipation shield and a 72v Dielectric-Bias System, with a mono XLR plug at each end.
Husky is also made with RCA plugs. AudioQuest Husky RCA is the choice when your electronics and subwoofer use RCA jacks.
Other length & termination options are available. Call us to discuss your needs.
AudioQuest says silver-plated conductors, harsh and aggressive for full-range audio, enhance intelligibility and articulation when used for subwoofers. It calls this a cost-effective way to make a very high-quality subwoofer cable. The conductors are solid, which eliminates strand-interaction distortion.
Husky's three conductors include a separate ground-reference conductor, so the shield is never used as an inferior conductor. Whether prepared with RCA or XLR plugs, the three conductors give the positive and negative signals equally good, low-distortion paths.
AudioQuest's 72v Dielectric-Bias System works on the insulation between the conductors, which affects the integrity of the signal. An integrated ground wire with spade lugs helps eliminate hum. The Carbon-Based 4-Layer Noise-Dissipation system provides 100% shield coverage against radio-frequency interference.
The plugs are cold welded, with Hanging-Silver directly over pure red copper. Cold-welding bonds the plug to the wire using high pressure, preserving the character of the wire where it ends.
Connect one end to the XLR subwoofer output of your receiver, preamp or processor, and the other to the XLR input on your subwoofer. Line up the pins and push until the latch clicks. Press the latch to release the plug. If your subwoofer also has a ground terminal, connect the spade-lug ground wire to it.
Electronics with an XLR subwoofer output include the Marantz AV10, Anthem AVM models, Denon AVR-AH1 and AVC-AH1, Trinnov processors, the McIntosh MX123 and the Parasound Halo P6, among others. Subwoofers with an XLR input include JL Audio Fathom models, REL Reference models, the Perlisten D212 and D215, the SVS SB17-Ultra, the Dynaudio Sub 6 and the Paradigm Signature SUB 2, among others.
Before ordering an XLR cable, check your subwoofer's manual for the manufacturer's recommendation. If the manufacturer says an RCA cable will perform just as well, save the extra cost and buy a good RCA subwoofer cable.
Measure the route the cable will really take from your electronics to your subwoofer, around furniture and along the baseboard. Then add a little slack. As audio legend George Cardas puts it, "A cable that's just long enough usually turns out to be just not long enough."
Subwoofers often sit far from the electronics. If yours does, we recommend a long interconnect rather than a long speaker cable. A really long interconnect affects system performance less than a really long speaker cable.
A subwoofer cable often stays in a system for years, so it is easy to overlook. Look again when something else changes: a new subwoofer, a new receiver or preamp, or a move to a bigger room.
A subwoofer cable joins your electronics to your subwoofer. These are the categories on either end of it.
Check your subwoofer's manual first for the manufacturer's recommendation. If the manufacturer says an RCA cable will perform just as well, save the extra cost and buy a good RCA subwoofer cable. Choose XLR when your electronics and subwoofer both offer XLR and the maker recommends it.
AudioQuest's technology for the insulation between conductors, which it says reduces energy storage and phase shift. It includes an RF trap to keep radio-frequency noise out of the signal conductors.
Yes. AudioQuest Husky RCA uses the same conductor, insulation and shielding approach with RCA plugs.
AudioQuest backs the cable with a limited lifetime warranty for the original owner, when you buy from an authorized US dealer like us.
