A headphone cable must physically match both ends of the chain: the connector on your headphones and the connector on your amplifier or DAC. Getting either wrong means the cable simply will not plug in, which is why the fit matters as much as the build quality.
Cardas Clear Headphone Extension is Clear Headphone Cable's wire terminated 1/4" (6.35mm) male to 1/4" (6.35mm) female instead of to a headphone-specific connector, so it fits any full-size headphone cable rather than one headphone model.
Cardas builds Clear Headphone Cable around a dual mono run, two completely isolated cables for left and right, the same approach used in its speaker cables. The conductors are Matched Propagation Kevlar-core Litz wire, Grade 1, 99.9999% pure oxygen-free copper with SPN clear coat, gauge sizes scaled to Golden Ratio proportions, insulated in an FEP tape-wrapped jacket.
Cardas suspends a composite shield of 42 AWG tinned copper and magnet wire away from the signal conductors, carried on oversized PTFE air-tubes, then finishes the cable in an ultra-soft extruded TPR jacket. The gauge runs 8x26.5 AWG for an outside diameter of 0.170 inches, or 4.31mm.
One end is a 1/4" (6.35mm) stereo male plug and the other is a 1/4" (6.35mm) stereo female jack, so this cable extends any full-size headphone cable without needing to match a specific headphone model. Cardas machines that 1/4" male plug itself, a GRQ-series connector plated rhodium over silver, backed by a Cardas lifetime warranty.
Plug your existing headphone cable's 1/4" male plug into this extension's female jack, and the extension's own 1/4" male plug into the headphone output on your amplifier or DAC.
Then power up the system as usual. Other and longer lengths available. Call for prices.
A headphone cable is one link between your headphones and an amplifier or DAC. It usually joins these categories.
Any headphone whose cable ends in a standard 1/4" (6.35mm) male plug. Since the extension itself doesn't touch the headphone-specific connector, it works regardless of which headphone that cable was built for.
It simply won't plug in. Headphone connectors aren't interchangeable the way many amplifier connectors are, so check your headphones' own connector, and the amp-end plug your amplifier or DAC uses, before ordering.
Cardas doesn't publish guidance on chaining its own extension, but the more connections in a signal path, the more places for a loose connection to introduce noise; a single extension sized to your actual reach is the more reliable choice.
Not in the Cardas headphone extension cable we carry. Clear Headphone Extension is the top of that range. If you want to go further, call us and we will talk through the whole chain.
